Hospitality and Tourism Management is a two-year program for juniors and seniors. The program provides students with broad-based learning on the tasks, knowledge, and skills required by anyone wishing to build a career within the hospitality and tourism industry: attractions, food service, and hotel management.

Why choose HTM for your program?

The American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute is the world’s most reputable provider of hospitality training programs and credentials. In addition to aligning with national curriculum standards, the industry-driven content highlights the knowledge and skills that hospitality leaders are looking for in their employees today.

The curriculum focuses on three main goals:

  1. Generate interest in and provide a foundational understanding of hospitality segments and the world of career opportunities within the industry

  2. Present students with both career readiness and position-specific skills that will help them get started in the industry and set them on the path to success

  3. Prepare students to sit for an exam to earn the Hospitality & Tourism Specialist Credential which recognizes their knowledge and achievement

The course incorporates the best of modern technology with a selection of online coursework, video selections, guest speakers, simulations, and on-site work experience learning. Ambassador opportunities will be provided for students both on and off campus.

Since this curriculum is industry-driven, it matches the needs of hospitality employers across the nation and internationally. Students will leave the program with an industry-recognized credential and over 100 hours of internship experience.

Hospitality and Tourism Specialist (HTS) Credential

Students who have completed the requirements of the Hospitality and Tourism Management Course(s) are eligible to apply for the Hospitality and Tourism Specialist credential - an industry-recognized credential awarded by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. To earn the certificate, students must pass the National HTS exam(s) hosted by an approved proctor, demonstrate a mastery of foundational skills, and complete the Work Experience Voucher to document working 100 mentored hours.

ProStart is a two-year program for juniors and seniors.  ProStart is taught with a two-level curriculum that:

  • Integrates practical skill sets

  • Allows students to become familiar with restaurants and foodservice

  • Exposes students to innovative career opportunities

The program reaches approximately 145,000 students in nearly 1,800 schools in all 50 states, Washington, DC, and the Territory of Guam.

An Industry-Driven Program to Develop Industry Leaders

ProStart students finish the program ready to join the workforce and make an immediate impact in restaurants and food service. ProStart students are closely connected to industry experts through guest speakers, class mentors, tours of local facilities, hosting student competitions, and more – all to ensure the real-world experience is brought directly to the classroom.

Work and Learn

While classroom experience is necessary to learn the foundational culinary and management skills, nothing beats real-life experience gained by working in the industry. ProStart students learn how to be industry professionals through hands-on work under the direction of a mentor. Mentors help students make the connection between their present performance and their future career. Students also learn the importance of arriving on time prepared for work, teamwork, and accountability.

National ProStart Certificate of Achievement (COA)

Students who have completed the requirements of the ProStart program are awarded an industry-recognized certificate – the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement. To earn the certificate, students pass two National Exams, demonstrate a mastery of foundational skills and work 400 mentored hours.
